Monday June 10th, 2013 01:09 Episode 94: Short-sleeved Button-down Rampage

1267479231_1.png

This week Zom and Loaf kind of revisit a theme, the first from episode 39 with men at the ends of their ropes, this time with men in short sleeved white shirts and ties going on rampages! Yeah…

First we talk about a slightly nerdier Anthony Wong than we have seen before in TAXI HUNTER!

Next we discuss a possibly divisive film with a great performance by Michael Douglas… 1993’s FALLING DOWN

Music this week:
Red Sovine – The Phantom Windbreaker
Calibro 35 – Gangster story
Romancing the Stone – Eddie Grant

Sunday June 2nd, 2013 20:26 Episode 93: Shaw Bros. Genre Mash-ups

7

This week we take a look at a couple films as examples of the legendary Shaw Bros. studio leaving Hong Kong and making some joint productions with multiple genres. I don’t even know if that was proper english

First we review what may just be a Red Sun rip-off, but was at least an attempt at kung-fu meeting a spaghetti western with THE STRANGER AND THE GUNFIGHTER.

Then we cover kung-fu horror as Shaw meets Hammer with THE LEGEND OF THE SEVEN GOLDEN VAMPIRES

Music this week:
The Stranglers – Let Me Down Easy
The Walkmen – The Rat
Supreme Beings Of Leisure – You’re Always The Sun

Sunday May 26th, 2013 11:22 Episode 92: Balding Creeps

dodgyjail-fortress-590

We originally were going to do a bald jerks double, but found our two stars, Kurtwood Smith and Michael Ironside, were not quite bald at this point AND were far more creepy than they were just jerks…

So you get reviews of FORTRESS from 1992, also starring Christopher Lambert, and SCANNERS from 1981!

And the usual rambling and farts and nonsense

Music this week:
Mojo Nixon – Tie My Pecker to My Leg
The Shins – The Rifle’s Spiral
Boards of Canada – Reach for the Dead

photo posted on www.post-gazette.com

This week Zom returns and we dive headfirst into some now considered classic baseball films. Will Loaf manage to keep from getting over-sentimental?

First we review FIELD OF DREAMS from 1989, then A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN from 1992!

The one constant through all the years has been baseball….

Music this week:
Magnetic Fields – No One Will Ever Love You
Mastodon – Hand Of Stone
Fugazi – Give Me The Cure

The-Quest

This week Zom had some technical issues after someone in the dungeon tripped over some important cables while trying to escape, so Jake McLargeHuge of Podcast Without Honor and Humanity stepped in to fill his wrasslin trunks… i mean boots… and review a couple JCVD flicks with Loaf

The first is the JCVD directed THE QUEST from 1996 also with James Remar and a shriveled Roger Moore playing a pirate pirate.

Then we review 1995’s SUDDEN DEATH with hockey, mascot murder, and helicopters. Wee!

Music this week:
Led Zeppelin – Sick Again
The Knife – Heartbeats
Queen – The Night Comes Down

Sunday May 5th, 2013 21:00 Episode 89: Sly With A Blonde

nighthawks3000

After much begging and pleading by our most prolific celebrity feedsacker, we decided to finally cover a couple Sly films. While we weren’t quite ready to jump to Magnificent Bastard status, (and as ol Russ was given this honor last week), we did find a tenuous link between two early-80s Sly flicks… him with a blonde!

The first film reviewed is NIGHTHAWKS… a smaller film with Rutger Hauer that fell between the now behemoths Rocky 2 and First Blood. Then we confront the harder to find romantic(?) comedy RHINESTONE with Dolly Parton.

Music this week:
Revolting Cocks – Do Ya Think I’m Sexy
The Psychedelic Furs – Pretty in Pink
Nathaniel Mayer – I Want Love and Affection

Sunday April 28th, 2013 21:00 Episode 88 – Magnificent Bastard Russ Meyer

meyer009AA

We’re inducting another Magnificent Bastard… this time a gentleman by the name of Russ Meyer.

We chose a couple later films to review (his final two, actually!) If you want an overload of jiggly, busty nudity, look no further.

We review UP! from 1976 and BENEATH THE VALLEY OF THE ULTRA-VIXENS from 1979.

This episode is a hard-R… possibly NC-17. Our mothers would be proud

Music this week:
Megadeth – Sweating Bullets
MF Doom – Hey!
Araby – Minks

Sunday April 21st, 2013 21:00 Episode 87: Blaxploitation

Trick Baby 1972 - Blaxploitation.avi_snapshot_00.07.16_[2011.06.01_23.56.06]

A few months ago we covered a couple blaxploitation films of the 80s… certainly the tail end of the heyday. This week we go to the opposite end of the spectrum and cover a couple earlier entries that have quite a different feel.

First we review TRICK BABY from 1972, then cover ACROSS 110TH STREET also from 1972. Both of these films have higher production values, budgets, acting quality, etc. than what you may be accustomed to in the genre. What do we think about them?

Music this week:
The Left Rights- LITTLE HARD ON’S
David Bowie – Hearts Filthy Lesson
Judge Dread – Big Six

Sunday April 14th, 2013 21:18 Episode 86: Way Up in Northern Britain

rita-sue-and-bob-too-1986-02_601x256

Last week we thanks CDR, and this week we thank Red Waffle Paul for helping with our top 30 show! Similar in feel at times, but perhaps on the complete opposite side of the globe, we cover a couple northern british films with some less fortunate individuals.

The first film reviewed is a sex-comedy type thing from 1986… divisive in the group and probably controversial upon its release… RITA, SUE, AND BOB TOO

Then we change gears and get a bit more serious with the Ken Loach drama about a dad saving money for his young daughter’s dress in RAINING STONES

Music this week:
Mac DeMarco – Freaking Out The Neighborhood
Ghost B.C. – Secular Haze
DJ Deeon – Gimme Head

Sunday April 7th, 2013 23:00 Episode 85: Once Upon a Time in Japan

a Shohei Imamura Ballad of NarayamaNarayama bushiko DVD Review PDVD_004

As a thank you to CDR of Mill Creeps fame, we wanted him to program a double for us to review. He chose a couple films showcasing a more rural lifestyle in feudal Japan… a once upon a time in Japan double feature

The first film reviewed is considered a modern classic, the sometimes funny, sometimes touching BALLAD OF NARAYAMA from 1983.

Then we give the samurai their due and review the sweaty drunken RONIN-GAI from 1990.

Music this week:
Queen – Gimme The Prize
s.o.d.-pre-menstrual princess blues
Finntroll – Jaktens Tid
