Friday December 30th, 2011 07:16 Episode 19: Transgenderocity

This week on ye olde podcast we delve into a couple controversial films about strong transgender characters… one film considered a complete failure, the other a success.

First we review the 1970 film MYRA BRECKENRIDGE starring a smokin hot Raquel Welch based on the Gore Vidal book of the same name. This we read was considered one of the worst films ever made.

Next up is one of Loaf’s favorites (sorry to spoil his review early!), from 2001; HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH. Rock

Forgot to mention feedback information on the show, so you can get it here I suppose

Friday December 23rd, 2011 02:05 Episode 18: Xmas Gifts from Fifi

Not really a holiday episode so to speak, nor did Roger Ward give them to us for the holiday, but we bring you this week a couple picks from Fifi himself.

First is a classic in the bikersploitation world… 1974’s Stone!

Then a threemileislandsploitation (?) type film from 1980 called The Chain Reaction.

Dudes from The Road Warrior just hanging out making some crazy Ozsploitations it seems.

Good times.

Have a lovely holiday, miners. Love from the both of us.

And thanks, Mr. Ward for programming the show this week.

Songs this week:
James Brown – Stone to the Bone
Iggy Pop – Chains
The Shins – Australia

Saturday December 17th, 2011 06:47 Episode 17: Deeper Shades of Comedy

Another week, another episode!

I felt like we had a change of pace this week when we decided to bring a little less action and a little more comedy. We had to keep it a tad twisted, though right? So we bring you a couple darker comedies that are probably considered classics by many.

First we get classy and review a 1944 Frank Capra film starring Cary Grant called Arsenic and Old Lace. Old ladies murdering men and a man who thinks he is Teddy Roosevelt burying the bodies in the cellar? Hilarious!

Next We review another Scorsese film, this time with Robert De Niro and Jerry Lewis from 1983 called The King of Comedy. Stalkery!

Usual banter, a touch less racism than usual, but more screaming at feedback when Metal Mikey infuriates Zom.

Music this week:
Le Tigre – Dude Yr So Crazy!
Guided By Voices – The Finest Joke
The Smiths – That Joke Isn’t Funny Anymore

Saturday December 10th, 2011 07:41 Episode 16: Nakey Rapey Hauer

Better late than never… maybe… is a siny new episode of Silva & Gold!

This week Emily and Rachel from Girls on Film chose a couple Paul Verhoeven directed, Rutger Hauer starred films for us to poop all over as only we know how.

The first is considered a Dutch classic from 1973, Turks Fruits. (Or Turkish Delights). Hauer loves showing his fruits.

The second is from 1985… a medieval tale of religion and science and plague and choreographed rape… Flesh + Blood!

Monday November 28th, 2011 03:04 Episode 15: Review and Review Again

Better late than never, Silva & Gold returns to kill you and kill you again lest we be killed

This week, to borrow a term from the Gents, we throw a Double Deuce at you with our reviews of TWO (count em) South African martial arts flicks.

KILL OR BE KILLED from 1980…

KILL AND KILL AGAIN from 1981…

So much karate, so little time.

Three hours of rambling is just a little time, right? …..right?

Some join us in our weekly train wreck, won’t you?

Saturday November 19th, 2011 07:27 Episode 14: Not Quite Die Hard

We are back and almost rested from a fantastic Horrorhound Weekend with some beautiful people to bring you a couple flicks that would love to be Die Hard, but aren’t qui

The first is a Jim Wynorski joint starring Corey Haim and Alan Thicke (yes, you read that right) from 1996 called DEMOLITION HIGH. High school Die Hard! Oh baby.te there.

The second is a doozy starring Jet Li and Jacky Cheung, directed by the rather prolific Jing Wong, from 1995 called HIGH RISK or MELTDOWN or Shu dan long wei.

I’m trying a different sound editing technique this week, in particular with the volume levels and filesize. Feedback is welcome and encouragedon how it sounds if at all different. 206-339-1600 or silvagoldpodcast@gmail.com

Music this week:

Monday November 14th, 2011 23:10 Episode 13: The Silva and The Gold

Sorry for the Horrorhound delay!

First we cover the film KIDNAP (Fatevi vivi: la polizia non interverrà) from 1974 where Silva is trying as a detective along with a mafia Don to solve a child kidnapping case.

We all know who the Silva is. Well, Gold can be many things, but we decided recently that Mr. Dolph Lundgren can be our Gold at least for the time being. We love some Dolph in all his forms, so we wanted to bring you a Silva and Dolph double feature to finally bring it all home.

Next we review a more explosive Dolph flick from 1994 called MEN OF WAR. Ever wanted to see Catherine Bell get her face licked? This is your film.

Saturday November 5th, 2011 06:59 Episode 12: Reverend Scott’s Hump Days

Reverend Scott made us a sweet, sweet intro for our show months and months ago. And months and months ago, we promised the good Reverend that we would review a movie of his choice. Well, we finally get to it this week after much (unneeded) tracking down.

YouTube can be very helpful sometimes.

Reverend Scott chose the 1998 film THURSDAY starring Thomas Jane, Aaron Eckhart, and Paulina Porizkova. Never thought I’d see a non-porn movie with a character wearing another character’s “juice” on his face.

We decided to make it a hump days double feature and pair Thursday up with BIG WEDNESDAY from 1974. Jan Michael Vincent, Gary Busey, William Katt, surfing, John Milius… good sheeeeeeit.

Somehow we manage to stretch a sleepy, low-energy show into three hours once again, so good luck to you all.

We’ll see you in the mines

Sunday October 30th, 2011 00:01 Episode 11: Actiony Horrory

Welcome one and all to our Halloween episode! You won’t find any Michael Myers or Jason Vorhees here…

We give you a little Chuck Norris, Bruce Campbell, and Robert Z’Dar instead.

Excited yet?

The first film we cover is SILENT RAGE from 1982. See Chuck Norris. See Chuck Norris kick the piss out of a scientifically created zombie type dude.

Then We talk about the battle of the chins with Z’Dar and Campbell in MANIAC COP!

Happy Halloween, one and all. We hope this Silva & Gold flavored “horror” movie double feature bring you many a pleasant nightmare!

Sunday October 23rd, 2011 11:11 Episode 10: Role Changing Punks

We got ourselves a punks changing roles double feature for ya this week!

This was originally going to be an old cars double feature, but Netflix lied to us about our first film reviewed, 2003’s THE MAN OF THE YEAR. You don’t get Robin Williams, but instead a dyed blonde Brazilian, some hot women, guns, and a pet pig named Bill.

Next we did a very punk rock movie directed by Alex Cox from 1984…. REPO MAN. At least we get the old cars in here, and any chance to see Harry Dean Stanton probably makes it worth the price of admission.

Zom is drugged, Loaf stutters, it’s fun for all!
